Lenovo’s next-gen ultrabooks are half-a-year away (at least according to the leaked roadmap), but they won’t be sitting still on their notebook lines. According to a source, Lenovo is planning to add an extra feature on the existing IdeaPad X1 to get a little more mileage from the notebook. To be called the ThinkPad X1 Hybrid, the new updated kit will be able to run on Android (besides the usual Windows 7 OS), giving it an “Instant Media Mode.”
According to the source, booting the Android OS “doubles the battery life,” which makes it good for up to 10 hours of web browsing, or basically the same run time you’d get if you ran plain old Windows on the original X1 with the optional external battery attached.
The rest of the details weren’t given, but if the specs are going to be kept from the original X1, then the X1 Hybrid is expected to pack the same Intel Core i3/i5/i7 processor, at least 4GB of RAM, and a 320GB hard drive inside the same slim, 13-inch notebook frame.
The X1 is expected to be out “later this month.” Pricing wasn’t given, but the original ThinkPad X1 debuted with a $1,399 price tag that was shortly cut down to $1,199.
