Now how about that? Siri runs on a 3GS too

The iPhone 4S has been selling like sexy, glass-paned pancakes in just about every country that it’s selling in, but if you wanted the latest iPhone because Apple said that it was the only way you can experience Siri, then here’s something that might interest you: apparently, it runs fine on the two-year old iPhone 3GS as well.

After successfully hacking Siri into the iPhone 4 and iPod touch, mobile devs Grant Paul and Steve Troughton-Smith successfully ported it to the iPhone 3GS as well (yup, it hooks up with Apple’s servers), making it the oldest-gen iOS device capable of handling the groundbreaking voice command feature. Save for the less-than-optimal visuals on the 3GS, the video shows Siri running smoothly enough.

While Apple has said that the Siri feature will be restricted to the iPhone 4S, there have been rumors of Apple extending Siri support to older devices. It’s still unknown if they’ll actually do it since they have a number of reasons not to (Siri on older devices could slow down 4S sales and slow down their servers), but at least we can now eliminate the thinking that older devices won’t be able to handle the feature.
