The Motorola ATRIX 2 wasn’t the only new Android phone due out at AT&T. AT&T has also announced two more phones, this time from Samsung: the Captivate Glide and the DoubleTime. Both phones run on Android and feature a QWERTY keyboard, but handle it in different ways.
The Samsung Captivate Glide comes in a typical slider form factor, featuring a four-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen on top and a full keyboard that slides under it. Featuring a nice spec that includes an eight megapixel rear cam that can handle 1080p video recording and a 1.3MP front-side video chat-cam, the phone is unique among Samsung smartphones, being the only one in the US that runs on a dual-core Tegra 2 processor.
The Captivate Glide ships with Android 2.3 and Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, and is also geared for business use with Exchange support, SD card encryption, VPN, and remote device controls.
The DoubleTime is a little more unique in terms of its looks. Mainly because we don’t get to see a lot of clamshell Android phones these days. The DoubleTime sports a double-hinged clam design, with a 3.2-inch 320 x 480 touchscreen up top and a QWERTY keyboard on the bottom half. AT&T didn’t give out pricing, but the 600MHz processor and older Android 2.2 OS on this phone says it’s a budget phone for messaging. The 3.2-megapixel camera is a bonus on this one.
Pricing and availability for both phones weren’t announced, but they’re set to be available this fall.
