We’ve seen solar-powered, self-charging cases for the iPhone, but solar cases that can charge the iPad aren’t that common. At least not yet. But here’s an awesome product that could start the whole solar-powered-iPad-case ball rolling: the LilyPad.
Like a lot of other iPad cases, the LilyPad is a hinged folding-type case that lets you prop it up as a stand for video watching, or tilted slightly for comfy typing. Unlike your typical iPad case this one comes with a row of “solar ink” panels that’s listed to be good for two weeks’ worth of Angry Bird chucking in typical indoor / outdoor lighting conditions.
The awesomeness doesn’t stop with the green power though. The LilyPad also adds an HDMI out (with built-in 7.1 audio for plugging it to a larger digital display and a USB Power-Out port for charging another device, like an iPod or iPhone (or other USB-charging device). Lastly, the case also comes with a “Quick Finder” feature that will let you locate a misplaced iPad in a cluttered room. Just whistle, and the LilyPad beeps back to let you know where it is.
The LilyPad is an Apple-certified “Made for iPad” product, and is expected out by mid-October. Final pricing hasn’t been announced, but it’s up for preorders now for a “discounted rate” of $165.
