The glasses-free 3D smartphone arena so far filled up by the HTC Evo 3D and LG’s Optimus 3D just got a bit more crowded, thanks to this new entry by Sharp. They’ve announced the Aquos SH8298U, a premium Android-based smartphone that – you guessed it – also rocks a glasses-free 3D screen.
Besides the spacious 4.2-inch glasses-free D display with a qHD resolution, it packs a similarly awesome spec. The Android 2.3 Gingerbread phone packs a 1.4GHz Snapdragon processor, Adreno 205 graphics and 512MB of RAM for powering up the screen, and packs 2GB of built-in storage that can be added to with a card slot. And like the two previously-mentioned models by HTC and LG, the phone also rocks dual eight-megapixel cams at the back for capturing your own 3D photos and videos.
Certainly an awesomely-specced option if you’re in the market for a phone that can shoot –and play back – 3D content… as long as you’re in Japan. Or have access to the Japanese mobile market. The Sharp Aquos SH8298U is headed for SoftBank in Japan, with no word on availability in other regions.
