Here’s an interesting concept smartphone from Korean carrier KT: a phone that can turn into another mobile device. Or at least as long as you buy the necessary accessories for it. Called the KT Spider, the smartphone packs a large 4.5-inch screen with a 1280 x 800 display and 8MP main cam, and runs on a dual-core 1.5GHz processor along with 1GB of RAM. Certainly an impressive spec, but that’s not what makes it noteworthy. It’s the set of accompanying accessories that make the whole concept interesting.
KT showed off a number of add-ons that can be used with the phone, including a dock that gives it PSP-like controls for gaming and a tablet dock that turns the phone into a 10.1-inch tablet (and automatically upsizes the Gingerbread UI for the larger screen).
KT also has a notebook-like dock that – you guessed it – turns the phone into a notebook-like device that you can use like a notebook. It’s basically similar to the Motorola Atrix dock, but instead of docking the phone into a slot behind the screen, the KT spider fits into a slot on the notebook’s palmrest. The phone’s touchscreen can then be used as the notebook-like device’s touchpad.
No release info for this one, but if KT ever launches it, it’s unlikely to be sold outside of Korea.
