First, there were rumors of a phone with a wider screen and a new case design. Then there were talks of an iPhone 5 that will rock the same 3.7-inch screen, but wrapped in a smaller frame. Now we have new “proof” that the next iPhone will indeed be wider than the iPhone 4: new case designs, from “everywhere in China,” apparently, have started showing up on Alibaba.com. The details? The case designs show a curved back, as well as holes for a rear cam, stereo jack and bottom connector. Photos from Macitynet.it also show that the case designs fit an iPhone that’s obviously wider and longer — but slimmer — than the current iPhone 4. Judging by the images, it could be as slim as the current iPod touch.
It’s still unknown if these designs are the real deal, but it’s likely that the Chinese makers somehow got their hands on leaked blueprints of the next iPhone’s proportions. These cases coincide with earlier rumors that point to an iPhone with rounded edges and a teardrop-shaped back.
No word on the screen’s size, but if the next iPhone will indeed come with an edge-to-edge screen, then it’s definitely going to be larger than the previously-reported 3.7 inches if these case designs are correct.
