The line of slim systems that uses Intel’s Ultrabook spec just got a little bigger this week. After Toshiba’s announcement of the Portege Z830, here’s Lenovo with their new line of ultra-slims: They just announced updates to their IdeaPad U notebooks, highlighted by the ultraslim U300s. The highlight on this one? Besides the 0.6-inch aluminum frame, it’s also powered by a 2nd-gen Intel Core i7 processor, cooled by Intel’s laminar jet cooling that exhausts the air out using the keyboard and rear hinge.
The rest of the spec is pretty standard as far as Ultrabooks go: the IdeaPad U300s features a 13.3-inch display and a 256GB solid state drive under the hood, USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports along the sides, and a listed battery life that’s listed to go up to eight hours. The U300s will be available in two colors: a standard-looking Graphite Grey, and a more flashy-looking Clementine Orange.
Unfortunately, the high-end spec (as far as Ultrabooks go) on the U300s comes at a relatively high price. The base U300s is going to cost $1,195, but if you aren’t willing to go that high, Lenovo also has two more U-series laptops on tap: the 13.3-inch U300 and 14-inch U400.
Lenovo IdeaPad U300
The two notebooks won’t look as awesome as the ultraslim U300s, but they come with a better spec at a lower price. Both notebook models feature a range of Intel’s Core processors, and make use of the extra space by including an AMD Radeon HD 5470M graphics, standard mobile hard drives for more storage space (up to 1TB), and add an integrated optical drive.
The U300 starts at $799, while the base U400 system costs $849. All three IdeaPad U-series notebooks are due out in October.
