If you sit farther back and maybe squint a little, you’d probably think this photo is an artsy shot of a MacBook Air. Obviously, you’d be wrong, but it’s a forgivable mistake. Because these leaked photos, showing an upcoming Acer notebook called the Aspire 3851, is a dead ringer for Apple’s MacBook Air.
Whether you believe that it’s a ripoff of Apple’s design or not, it’s definitely a looker. Described to weigh 3.09 pounds and measuring half-an-inch thick, the aluminum-clad notebook features Intel’s ultrabook spec – and the absence of an optical drive – to make it all fit. Besides a choice between a 160GB SSD or 250/500GB hard drive choices for storage and the use of a 2011 Intel Core processor, the rest of the notebook’s spec is still unknown.
Because of the rather tight design, the Aspire 3951 features ports along the hinge at the back instead of the sides. It’s also known to feature Bluetooth 4.0, but drops Intel’s Thunderbolt tech for a regular HDMI output.
According to earlier rumors, the Aspire is due out by the end of 2011, with a price that ranges between $769 to $961 depending on the model.
