Nokia just put up a countdown timer for the N9’s release on their Swedish site [translated page]. According to the clock, it’s due out in 49 days, which we had to count down to September 23rd. We almost felt good that we managed to track down the Meego-running smartphone’s definite release date (it took a whole lot of counting), until we remembered that they already announced that the N9 was launching on September 23rd in Sweden last month. Oh well.
Big whoop on the timer thing, but the phone’s impending launch still offers something to get excited about. Nokia’s flagship looks awesome, thanks to a 3.9-inch AMOLED screen protected by a curved Gorilla glass cover, an 8MP Carl Zeiss camera and Dolby Digital Audio. The fact that it runs on Meego also makes it a lot more interesting because it’s something that makes it unique. Will it come with enough killer apps to sustain interest? We’ll know in a couple of months.
