Sharp has unveiled the Galapagos A01SH tablet in Japan, an Android 3.2-based tablet that features a 7-inch, 1024 x 600 display. We’re not exactly sure how Sharp plans to make the A01SH tablet stand out since it’s made up of somewhat common Android tablet bits (dual-core Tegra 2, 1GB of RAM, 5mp main cam, 2MP front cam) and it doesn’t even come with an integrated 3G connection, but we’re hoping for this one to at least come with at an attractive price.
The rest of the spec includes a 7.5-hour battery and 8GB of storage, as well as a microSDHC slot for adding more. Connectivity includes the usuals: Bluetooth and Wi-fi, as well as an uncommon way to get online while on the move. Sharp partnered with EAccess in Japan, who will be bundling a 42Mbps 3G “Pocket Wifi” mobile router with the tablet.
Pricing hasn’t been released yet, but both Sharp and EAccess mentioned “competitive pricing.” We expect it to be “competitively priced” as well, since the spec doesn’t exactly say “premium device.” No word on an international launch yet, but Sharp said that they planned to bring their Galapagos tablets to the US.
