Is it just us, or is this Galaxy Tab accessory ripping off the Apple Smart Cover? That was a rhetorical question. You don’t even have to go into the details to know that if you’re familiar with the Smart Cover that Apple launched alongside the iPad 2… but we’ll go into the details anyway. This tablet cover is called the “Smart Case,” built by Anymode Corp. and—from the looks of the photos tagged with a “Designed for Samsung mobile” logo—is certified by Samsung.
Like Apple’s Smart Cover, the Smart Case appears to be built with the same four-fold design, basically folding and propping up the Samsung slate in exactly the same ways. From the photos, it also looks like they built the Smart Case with the same material and in the same pastel colors, it seems. The difference here is that the Smart Case doesn’t have the hidden magnets that switches the screen on and off, or the magnets that allows the Smart Cover to be quickly pulled off or hooked up. In its place, the Samsung version has a case the covers the Galaxy Tab’s backside.
So where’s the “smart part”? We’re not really sure, since the Smart Case doesn’t really do anything special except for folding in ways that we’ve already seen before. Can’t see anything smart about blatantly ripping off a rival’s product, but it sure looks like a “smart case” for Apple’s legal department to follow up on.
