We’re not really sure who’s keeping track, or if there’s some kind of contest for these things that we don’t know about, but Asus just won a title for something. They just announced a pair of new ultraslim notebooks called the U46 and U56, both of which measure under an inch thick but don’t really take the crown for being the slimmest in town. The 14-inch U46 is known for rocking the “thinnest 14-inch notebook panel currently available,” though, with a bezel that measures only 5.5mm thick. Probably not the most glamorous title to (currently) brag about, but it does make it noteworthy. Winning!
Both notebooks basically come with the same spec, running on either an Intel Core i5 2529M/2410M or Core i3 2310M processors, up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, a 750GB hard drive, DVD Super Multi drive and a GeForce GT 540M graphics chip under the hood. Both notebooks also feature ten-hour batteries and USB 3.0 ports, as well as a “hinge-forward design,” but differ mainly on screen size: the U46 comes with a 14-inch screen, while the U56 is a 15-incher that also comes with a soft-touch palm rest that promises a “more luxurious experience.”
In typical Asus fashion, they didn’t announce pricing or release dates yet.
