Report: Amazon to come out with its own Android powered tablet Amazon tabletDon’t look now, but another major tech player is reportedly going to join the tablet fray before the year ends (specifically, around October). According to this WSJ report, Amazon is working on a tablet or two – with one “of its own design” that could be released next year.

In a world swimming with Apple’s iPads and various Android tablets, how would this make any difference? Well, the fact that Amazon is going to come up with it sure helps. They certainly have downloadable content covered, with music, movies and books already available on their site.

Besides mentioning that the tablet will have a “roughly nine-inch screen,” an Android OS, and the absence of a built-in camera, the report didn’t get into specifics, but it looks like they’re aiming for a price that’s well below $500, and even take a loss on the tablet itself and make it up by selling content. In any case, if they can come up with a good-sized tablet well below the $500 range, that should help it stand out from the pack.

Amazon is also reportedly working on two new Kindle readers for the third quarter of 2011, one of which is going to rock a touch screen.
