Motorola outs Android powered XT316 for the international budget crowd motorola xt316Motorola has just put out a new Android-powered smartphone, geared for budget-buyers outside of the US. Called the XT316, the handset packs a full QWERTY keyboard and a relatively small 2.8-inch touchscreen into a candybar frame as well as an average spec to keep the price affordable.

The XT316, which will be renamed to “Fire” when it hits Europe and “Spice Key” in Latin America, rocks a 3-megapixel cam at the back, while up to 32GB of storage can be added to it by way of a microSD card slot. The spec’s rounded out by an FM radio, A-GPS, Wi-fi and 3G, plus support for quad-band EDGE and dual-band HSPA 3G connectivity.

The phone runs on Android 2.2 out of the box, and is expected to be updated to Android 2.3 in the fall, and comes topped off with Motorola’s Switch UI that lets you, um, switch the phone’s interface to gear up for work or social networking.

No word on pricing just yet, but the basic spec should keep the prices low. It’s already shipping in China, followed by a mid-July launch in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Latin America. The phone’s also set to hit the rest of Asia and Europe later in the summer. [via Electronista]
