According to several industry sources, a number of notebook manufacturers plan to develop notebooks based on ARM processors and Android operating systems, with Samsung, Tochiba, Acer and Asus possibly launching new products by the end of 2011. The report was a little short on details, but the new class of notebooks will likely run on quad-core ARM processors, including NVIDIA’s Tegra, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon, and TI chips. Asus has also reportedly made plans to launch a 13-inch ARM-based notebook that runs on an NVIDIA processor and Android OS.
Besides the possible “late 2011” launch window, the report didn’t give out any other launch details or if 13 inches are going to be the class standard, but they did mention that the manufacturers were aiming for a sub-$300 price point. [via DigiTimes]
