Huawei officially outs Android 3.2 based MediaPad tablet huawei mediapad

Huawei’s MediaPad, the 7-inch tablet that starred in this odd “sneak peek” video, just got formally introduced. Besides getting a nice good look at its business end (and not just the back), Huawei also laid out the tablet’s spec, as well as an announcement that the MediaPad will be the first tablet to rock Google’s Android 3.2 OS. The main difference? Android 3.2 is designed to work with smaller screens, like the MediaPad’s 7-incher.

The rest of the MediaPad’s spec look pretty solid: it’s going to run on a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, a 5MP auto-focus camera at the back, and a 1.3MP cam up front for video chatting. Interestingly, the MediaPad also boasts a 217ppi WSVGA display, giving it a higher pixel density compared to the iPad 2’s 132ppi screen. Will it make a difference in terms of consumer popularity? We highly doubt it, but we love that the tablet market is moving along to better screens.

The feature list is rounded out with an HDMI output port (which the MediaPad can use to port 1080p HD video to a larger screen), a 6-hour 4100mAh battery, and Wi-fi, Bluetooth and HSPA 3G connectivity. Huawei didn’t announce any prices yet, but they did mention that it’s due out in the fall, and that they didn’t plan on coming out with a Wi-fi only model.
