Here we were, wishing for a USB drive to plug into our cheap 16GB iPad 2, and what did PhotoFast do? They came out with a flash drive that plugs into an iOS device, called the i-FlashDrive (of course!). It’s not as flexible as an adapter that adds an all-around USB host port like what Samsung did on the Galaxy Tab USB Adapter, but this looks mighty useful. Especially to shortsighted people like us who opted for the cheapest iPad 2 during the opening day rush.
Anyway, the i-FlashDrive is exactly what it is: It’s a flash drive for your iPhone or iPad. Or both — it’ll also let you easily transfer files between devices without having needing a PC. It features a 30-pin connector on one end for plugging it into an iOS device, a USB connector on the other end for connecting it to a computer, and a flash chip inside for adding 8GB, 16GB and 32GB storage.
The accessory also works with a free i-FlashDrive app that’ll let you view and manage stored files, and acts as a document viewer, voice recorder and text editor. It’s a handy app on it’s own as well, allowing you to delete, move, copy and send files through email, even without the storage accessory plugged in.
The i-FlashDrive accessory will be out next month, costing $98, $119, and $192 for 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities respectively.
