Cupertino’s ready for Apple’s new ‘Mothership’ new apple campus

When Steve Jobs unveiled Apple’s plans to build a shiny (and circular… and awesome…) new Apple campus off I-280 in Cupertino, he was basically asking for approval to go through with it. Really, no one’s going to think of turning down one of the city’s largest taxpayers and employers, but in case there was any doubt, Cupertino mayor Gilbert Wong held a press conference to confirm that “Cupertino is ready for this.” And probably more than just a wee bit excited.

The proposal will still go through the regular approval process just like any other building, but judging by Jobs’ presentation where he unveiled plans to build 6,000 more trees and even generate their own power, it’s pretty much a foregone conclusion. Wong did say that there’s “no chance we’re saying no” after all. If everything else goes smoothly (and it doesn’t seem like there’s going to be any problems with the city’s decision-makers), Apple estimates the new campus to be completed by 2015.
