Asus unveiled two more ultraslim notebooks at Computex 2011, giving you two more Windows-powered alternatives to Apple’s iconic MacBook Air. Like Apple’s ultraslim, the UX21 is also designed with an all-aluminum body and a glass trackpad, but this one’s listed to be thinner at 0.67 inches. Inside that slim, brushed aluminum frame is an Intel Core platform for running Windows 7, with options that run up to a Core i7 CPU for performance.
Unfortunately, like the MacBook Air, the slim frame won’t be able to fit regular hard drives. This notebook relies on SSD storage that still give it better performance and a longer battery life, at the cost of a lower storage ceiling. The UX21 also features a pair of USB 3.0 ports (which you can always use to add more storage) and a Mini Display port for video output.
Asus also updated their Eee PC netbook line by announcing the Eee PC X101. The specs are pretty typical based on Intel’s 1.5GHz Atom Z670 processor, but it’s the design that sets this one apart. Like the UX21, the X101 also features a slim 0.69-inch frame, to make it slightly thicker than the UX21. Asus didn’t release the full specs for the netbook, but the X101 will likely use a standard mobile hard drive on storage.
The Eee PC X101 will also come with a choice between Windows 7 or MeeGo. Interestingly, Asus is offering this netbook for $199 if you go with the MeeGo option, which makes this an awesome deal if you don’t mind dealing with the uncommon OS (or just plan to install Windows yourself).
