Apparently, we all got it wrong. When word broke out last week that Asus trademarked a PadFone name, we thought it was some sort of hybrid tablet-phone thing. You know, a single in-between device that either looks like a compact tablet that can make calls, or an oversized phone with a screen that’s so big you’d have to call it a tablet. Well, no one thought of this: Pocketnow managed to get full photos of the Asus PadFone that was teased last week, showing a phone that fits inside a tablet.
Details haven’t been revealed (at least not yet. The official unveil is expected to happen at Computex this week) but it looks like the “Pad” part of the deal is basically a big screen with integrated speakers that will most likely come with it’s own rechargeable battery. The fact that you have to slot in a phone could mean that the bigger screen won’t come with its own processor though.
The door at the back also sports a peep hole that allows the phone’s main camera to be used when stashed at the back.
The design looks pretty good and solid, but will the world pay for two devices to get the whole “FonePad” effect? We’ll know more real soon.
