What’s that? A tech brand like Acer is planning to release a tablet in a couple of months? That’s really not a surprise. Or that big a deal for the most part. This one’s a little different though, because it breaks from the usual ARM Cortex CPU/Android tablet template. If the report proves true, then we could be seeing one of the first (among an incoming crop that’s sure to follow) Android tablets to run on Intel’s new Oak Trail platform.
According to the Digitimes report, Acer plans to launch Intel/Android tablet around the end of July. All we know right now is that it’s going to rock a 10-inch screen, but besides the Atom processor and Android 3.1 OS, the rest of the specs are still up in the air. But then again, knowing the screen size, platform and OS should probably be enough these days. The rest of the spec shouldn’t be that different compared to the rest of the existing crop of 10-inch Honeycomb tablets, so we’lll spot you Wi-fi, Bluetooth and a couple of cams. Anything else would be a surprise.
There’s still the matter of pricing though. Android-on-Atom systems reportedly give off better performance for the same price. If Acer manages to pull the “better performance for the same price” thing off, then this is definitely something we’d want to check out.
