RecognizeMe tweak will let you unlock your iPhone with your face RecognizeMe

Slide to unlock? That’s so 2010. Also, it’s not secure. The iPhone does have a PIN code lock screen that you can activate if you need a little bit more security though, but it’s still not the most tech-savvy way to lock and unlock your phone. (You likely used your birthday or anniversary for the four numbers, right? Thought so. Like we said, it’s not really that secure.) Here’s an awesome locking tweak that upgrades your security to sci-fi movie level: called RecognizeMe, it uses your iPhone 4’s front FaceTime cam to scan your face and unlock the phone.

The tweak is enabled from the lock screen, and a red scanner-type bar appears when activated to show that it’s doing its job. The phone unlocks when the scanned image matches the photo that you set as the unlock. To beef up the security, the app also comes with fine-tune settings that can be used to make sure that look-alikes and shady characters (like Charlie Sheen, apparently) won’t trick the system into giving your doppelganger access.

Nifty app if you want to add a unique method of security for your phone, especially useful if you’re the type who are likely to forget a 4-digit number (given that you don’t mind raising the phone up to your face for a scan every time you want to unlock your phone). Unfortunately, this app won’t be available for everyone: it only works on jailbroken phones and isn’t available on the App Store. But if you do own a jailbroken iPhone, (or 4th-gen iPod touch… or iPad 2 if it ever gets jailbroken) RecognizeMe costs $6.99 from Cydia. [via 9to5Mac]
