Good news for Motorola Xoom owners: your tablet just got more awesome. As promised, Google and Motorola released the Android 3.1 update for the Xoom. According to early reports, it doesn’t look any different from vanilla 3.0 Honeycomb, but CrunchGear did mention that the tablet was noticeably faster after the update, with faster app-loading, zippy transitions, and an improved browser experience (with a pinch-to-zoom that feels “as smooth as the iPad’s”).
The Android 3.1 update’s changelog shows a lot more than performance improvements, but USB support is included in the update’s more noticeable improvements. While the previous version allowed you to plug in a USB keyboard, the update adds USB mouse support, including scrollwheel and trackball input in case you want to go old-school with your browsing (or you just don’t want to smudge the screen).
Google didn’t give out specific details on when other Android tablets are due to get the update, but they did say that more tablets will get it within the next two weeks. Google just put out the full changelog for the 3.1 update (here) if you want to check out exactly what to expect before it gets to you.
