You can usually spot cheap gadget knockoffs in a second: they sort of look like the real thing and they’re generally designed to act like the real thing but come with a number of telling features. Like an insanely low price, shoddy build quality, and a poor spec. Sometimes they even mix up the letters of the brand to make it look more like the real thing, but end up with hilarious results (see: the “poop” phone). This seven-inch tablet that’s made to look like a Dell Streak 7 might not be as well-specced as the original, but it also adds a number of advantages.
First off, you get the insanely low price of around $170-180 for a look-alike made by a company called “Welldone,” a huge difference compared to the $380 original. But the low price gets you just 4GBs of built-in memory and a cheaper resistive touch screen compared to the Dell Streak’s 16GB storage and capacitive screen. It also runs on a cheaper 1.2GHz single-core ARM Cortex A8 processor, and not the dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 Cortex A9 chip on the Streak 7. It does run on a newer Android 2.3 OS though, (the Streak 7 comes with Android 2.2) and will let you make actual phone calls, which is an advantage if you don’t mind rocking a 7-inch phone.
