It’s been ages since we’ve heard someone actually wish for a Walkman, but in case you run into someone who wants to listen to music on something compact, or someone who still uses the word “Walkman,” you can point them to this: Sony just announced a new Walkman series called the NWZ-B160. Like your typical flash-based music player, there’s nothing much else in here besides music playback, but it does have a unique feature called Zappin to help you breeze through your tracks.
Zappin is basically a shuffle mode that plays a short preview of each song that you can use to pick something you want to listen to. The player also features a Bass button that instantly boosts the lows to get you hopping, and LED lights that pulse in time with the beat. The light pulses aren’t probably the most useful thing to have, but hey, it’s cute. Otherwise, the player’s LED screen can also show 3 lines of text for displaying track info.
The B160 is listed to last up to 18 hours on a full charge, as well as a quick charge feature that gives you up to 90 minutes of play time on a three-minute charge from a USB port..
No word on capacities or pricing yet, but they’re due to ship in June.
