It looks like Lenovo’s about to come out with a new MacBook Air rival, if these leaks hold true. A slim new Lenovo notebook called the ThinkPad X1 recently turned up on a couple of Swiss online stores before they were quickly taken down, but not before the X1’s specs and details were listed and re-posted for everyone else to check out.
While it still looks like a classic ThinkPad with the matte, business-black color and recognizable red pointing stick, the 0.85-inch thick frame definitely reminds us of something that’s taking aim at Apple’s super-slim MacBook Air. Despite the slim frame, it doesn’t look like it sacrifices performance though. The specs that leaked out include a 2.5GHz Core i5 processor (not the low-power ULV type used by Apple), and, interestingly, a listed 10-hour battery life.
The rest of the known spec includes a single RAM slot that can hold up to 8GBs of memory, and support for the latest interfaces, including USB 3.0, eSATA, a hybrid port that can output to DisplayPort or HDMI, and an SDXC card reader.
The X1 also looks like it’s also built to take the hits, listed to sport a Gorilla Glass cover to protect the 13.3-inch screen.
According to the report, the X1 could be out by mid-May with a price that translates to around $2,920. Sounds a bit too high for something that runs on anything less than a Core i7 and a top-end discrete mobile graphics chip, but the figure could be trimmed down by the time it reaches the US.
