Sprint just pulled out their new flagship phone for the year at CTIA, the HTC Evo 3D. It’s currently listed to be the fastest phone HTC has ever put out, powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, but comes with a number of optimization features (like tuning down one of the cores when performance isn’t needed to keep performance up without draining the battery) to keep it running better than other 1.2GHz chip-powered phones. On the outside, the phone packs a 4.3-inch display with a qHD (540 x 960) resolution, keeping in step with the current crop of high-end ‘droids.
What sets it apart is what makes up its name: the ‘3D’ comes from the built-in snapper (or “snappers,” in this case). Like LG’s Optimus 3D, the Evo 3D features a pair of 5MP cameras at the back, which it can use to capture 3D content in 720p (or 2D content in 1080p), which the phone can also play back without having to don a pair of 3D glasses in 720p.
The rest of the spec includes 1GB of RAM and 4GB of built-in storage that you can expand with a microSDHC card. The phone also comes preloaded with Android 2.3 under the newest version of HTC’s Sense UI that can launch apps right from the lock screen. The phone also supports Sprint’s WiMAX-based 4G network, and comes with downloadable Blockbuster video rentals (3D movies included, of course) as well as a mobile hotspot feature for sharing the internet love with up to 8 other Wi-fi devices.
Sprint didn’t mention pricing details, but this phone is expected to ship in the summer.
