Is Sony Ericsson working on a WP7 based XPERIA? (update: this isnt it) Sony Ericsson leaked WP7 phoneUpdate: Apparently, this is, indeed, a prototype. But it’s not something we’re likely going to see. According to a tweet from Mobile Review’s Eldar Murtazin, this particular device is a prototype that was cancelled last year. Sony Ericsson could still be planning to put out a WP7-based phone this year, but if the new info proves to be true, this won’t be it.

Well, are they? Judging by this leaked image posted at the Estato forum, it appears that they are. The post didn’t mention any details, a codename, or where this particular phone was snapped from, but it at least looks legit. While it’s possibly just  a prototype, the phone was obviously specifically designed to run on Windows Phone 7, with the usual three WP7-specific hotkeys below the screen and a recognizable emoticon button on the slide-out keyboard.

Since the post didn’t reveal any details, we’re clueless on this handset’s spec, although if we base it on the current crop of WP7 phones, it should at least feature a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 5-megapixel snapper, 8GBs of built-in storage and a display that packs (at least) a 480 x 800 resolution. Sony Ericsson has mentioned earlier that they plan to come out with at least on WP7 phone this year, so this could be it. [via Daily Mobile]
