iPhone 5 to rock an aluminum rear end? iPhone 5 mockupSince the iPad 2 launch pretty much made sure that we stopped discussing rumors about, well, the iPad 2, Apple fans need to talk about something, right? Next up for the Apple grapevine: the iPhone 5, which, according to a Chinese source (and posted on MacOtakara, along with the mockup shown above), will be using an aluminum casing again. In case you don’t remember, the first iPhone had an aluminum back, which was then switched to plastic for the 3G (the aluminum screwed with the reception), then they used glass for the iPhone 4 (because of the way the antenna was designed, your hand apparently screwed with the antenna reception). So how are they going to solve the signal problems on this one? According to the report, they won’t be using the iPhone 4’s external antenna design anymore, and suggested that Apple might use the same antenna strategy used on the iPad, where the antenna catches its signal through the Apple logo at the back.

While we’re pretty sure they won’t be using the same antenna design from the 4, we’re not so sure about the last part, since the Apple logo on the iPhone is pretty darn small. Also, wouldn’t that be harder to grip? We’ll know more pretty soon: Apple is expected to unveil the new iPhone in June.
