Apple outs 2 killer iPad 2 apps: GarageBand and iMovie iMovie 2Apple just introduced two new upcoming apps for the iPad 2: iMovie and GarageBand. They’re pretty much the same thing as the same-named apps for Mac – iMovie will let you do easy video editing, while GarageBand will let you create songs (or ‘walls of sound,’ depending on who’s listening to what you come up with), but for $4.99 each and intuitive touch-based controls, they’re basically must-haves on an iPad.

iMovie instantly ports anything you shoot using the camera-packing iPad 2 to the app, which will let you edit them instantly. Editing options includes the use of any of eight available themes, titles, and transitions. The tablet’s built-in mic will also let you record your own voiceovers or narration, but you can also drag and drop audio clips, songs and sound effects for a soundtrack.

This version also makes it easy to share your videos right off the device. After cleaning up your clip, iMovie features quick links for uploading it directly to YouTube, FaceBook, Vimeo or CNN iReport, sending it to your MobileMe folder, attaching it to an email or SMS, streaming it to Apple TV or an HDTV using AirPlay or just send it to iTunes so you can spread the love to your iPhone.

GarageBand looks like a barrel of fun to use (we’re not really into home movie-marking, but GB for the iPad looks awesome). The app comes with multiple libraries of instruments, all of which use the tablet’s accelerometer and multitouch screen to get you different sounds. For example, dragging on a guitar string will sound like you’re bending it on a real guitar, while tapping harder on the virtual drum kit will get you a louder sound (tapping on the different areas of the drum kit will also get you the appropriate sound).

GarageBand also comes with a number of amps and effects that you can use to get the exact sound you want, and when you’re ready to put it all together, you can arrange all your loops and clips on an 8-track recorder.

Like iMovie, GarageBand also comes with a number of ways to share your audio clips straight from the iPad, allowing you to send files through email, or for export to an iTunes library. GarageBand projects made on an iPad 2 will also work with the Mac version, so you can further edit the quick project you made at the park on your Mac at home.

Both apps will be available on the App Store on March 11th. iMovie works with the iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G and iPad 2, while GarageBand is limited to the iPad 2.
