It’s the eve of the iPad 2 launch, but what do we have here? A get-ready-to-be-underwhelmed report? According to Cult of Mac, who got some info about the iPad 2 launch from an Apple staffer, the “Dos” is going to be more of a performance upgrade than a major redesign. Of course the expected updates that includes dual cams, a faster processor and more RAM are still on the table, but the focuse will apparently be more about the new cloud-based MobileMe service for storing media bought from the iTunes store. The question about uploading non-iTunes bought media was still up in the air though.
As for the new iPad itself, it’s also still going to be thinner and lighter than the first iPad. We kind of already have an idea about the new tablet’s shape (it looks pretty sweet compared to the first one), thanks to a number of leaked photos from China showing a dummy iPad 2, which shows a larger speaker at the back, dual cams, and a slimmer frame,. Just don’t expect a screen with a higher resolution, since this iPad will basically come with the same screen size and resolution.
More specific details weren’t given, but the Apple staffer did say something that you might want to take note of. “For the iPad 2 don’t get your hopes up too high. That’s all I’m going to say. They’ve had a number of problems along the way, and the third-generation iPad is the one to make a song and a dance about.”
Don’t get too worked up? Sure, we can do that. As long as Apple sells it at the same price point as the first one when they launched it last year, we’ll happily take the upgrade.
