Sony to go after everyone involved in the PS3 jailbreak PS3 hackedRemember when George Hotz (aka “Geohot”, aka “the hacker who made Sony mad”) was sued by Sony for posting code that’ll let you jailbreak your PS3? In case you didn’t follow the news, Sony won that battle, with the courts granting them a restraining order against PS3 hacks. You might already have the code, and maybe you don’t (and maybe you never even tried to hack your console) but if you do have the code (or a similar code we don’t know about that you just made up), it won’t be a good idea to spread it on the internet.

Sony just requested a judge to order Google to surrender IP addresses and other information of those who viewed or commented on the jailbreak video on YouTube, and they’re demanding that Twitter also provide the info behind the hackers who announced a hack a couple of months ago. According to the report from Wired, Sony wants to ““to determine the identities of third parties hosting and distributing the circumvention devices.” After that, they’ll be sending them a DMCA notice to remove the material “and, if necessary, seek appropriate relief.”

You’ve been warned. Or… if you really need to pass a hack to a buddy, don’t use the net. Mail him a USB drive or something. Not that we’re supporting piracy here (we don’t even game on a PS3… we just think homebrew devs are awesome) but in case you’re a hacker who also happens to be someone we know, don’t tell us we didn’t warn you: Sony’s looking for you, buddy.
