Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Arc rocks Bravia display, Exmor R cam SE Xperia Arc 2

Sony Ericsson’s Xperia line of smartphones just got a little bit bigger, after the company unveiled the Xperia Arc at CES. The phone apparently got the name from the unusual curved back, which gives it a very slim feel. Besides the slim body, the Android 2.3-running phone is highlighted by a number of Sony’s imaging and display technologies, including an 8.3 megapixel Exmor R back-illuminated sensor with HD video recording, and a 4.2-inch ‘Reality Display’ powered by Sony’s Mobile BRAVIA Engine.

So what do you get when you tag a mobile phone with display tech from Sony’s TV line? Bragging rights, apparently. Specifically, the right to claim that this phone rocks the ‘brightest display on the market.’ It’s been described to be pretty bright in person, with a quality that matches AMOLED screens in detail and brightness. At 854 x 480, it’s a bit less pixel-packed than the Retina Display on the iPhone 4 though, but the Reality Display is listed to enhance colors and detail.

The built-in camera should also prove to be a big highlight on this phone. The 8MP cam is listed to feature 2.45x smart zoom, f/2.4 aperture, face detection, image stabilization and noise suppression tech, LED flash, plus support for Geotagging.
The rest of the details include a 1GHz processor, 512MBs of internal storage, a microSD card slot for expansion, and an HDMI port for porting content over to a TV. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, byt the Xperia Arc is listed to be available within the first quarter of 2011.
