This photo shows Taiwan celebrity-slash-race driver Jimmy Lin holding up what looks to be two iPads. We have no idea who Jimmy Lin is, but we recognize a tiny iPad when we see one—it’s the one in his right hand by the way, in case that wasn’t obvious yet. Unless he’s some sort of giant holding a giant-sized iPad in his left hand. That would be impossible though, since it’s unlikely that they’d make giant-sized race cars that would be competitive enough to make this guy a celebrity.
On the other hand, you know what else is unlikely? That the smaller iPad-looking tablet in his right hand was made by Apple, since Jobs himself said that anything less than the current size would be too small for running good tablet apps. And if Jobs were to go back on his word, and in the same vein admit that all these smaller Android-based tablet-makers were right all along, then the world ending in 2012 might not be so far-fetched. (You go, Mayans!)
So what are we left with? The more likely scenario: that someone somewhere (we’re looking at you, cloners based in Chinese territories) managed to put out a smaller iPad-looking clone and installed an interface that looks a lot like iOS from this angle.
Just to be clear, we’re not really knocking Mr. Lin’s tiny toy. We just want to know where he got it. Because if it does run on iOS, it’s something we’d like to stuff in the bag that won’t fit our regular iPad.
