It looks awesome, it can connect to pretty much anything thanks to a number of connectivity options (although it’s designed with Apple devices in mind), and it packs a unique design that pumps out 360-degree sound. Basically, the Libratone Beat wireless speaker is an all-around good thing to have in a room if you’re into home audio. That last feature with the 360-degree sound will let you place this baby in the middle of the room without having to point it anywhere, and the interesting design certainly won’t hurt if you do.
It’s a little bit pricey, but the Libratone Beat’s flexibility makes up for it. It can connect wirelessly to an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch via a wireless transmitter, directly to any iOS device via an Apple Dock connector, a Mac or PC via a USB transmitter, or to just about anything else with a generic 3.5mm input jack. You get your money’s worth too: the package comes with the transmitters (one for portable devices, a USB transmitter for your computer). A button on the speaker instantly switches between the sources.
Designed to give off a Scandinavian furniture feel (which we really know nothing about), the speakers are draped with cashmere wool, and feature parts with chrome, wood and piano finish The speakers include a 5-inch bass driver, a pair of 3-inch midrange drivers, and a pair of 1-inch ribbon-based tweeters, which combine for 50W of high-end audio, and can be planted all around the house (within 30 feet) if you can manage to buy more than one.
Seriously awesome kit if you appreciate high-end, feature-filled speakers. It’s a bit expensive though. The gray version costs £549 (around US$866), while the other colors (beige, orange and black) are priced at £599 (around $944). [via Electronista]
