A week after the official spec sheet leaked out, Verizon has finally launched the Motorola Droid 2 Global. In case you haven’t caught a whiff of the leaks and rumors about it the past few months, the Global is essentially a slightly updated version of the Droid 2, featuring a 3.7-inch, 480 x 854-resolution touchscreen and 5MP cam with 720p video recording, but updated with a faster 1.2GHz processor (up from the 1GHz CPU on the Droid 2) and support for GSM and tri-band 3G networks for it to work globally.
The Droid 2 Global also comes in a white-and-silver color option that separates it from the usual blue-and-silver Droid 2… and that’s about it as far as changes go. Not that there was much to change from the relatively new Droid 2 anyway. The Global edition packs 8GBs of built-in storage and an 8GB microSDHC card, will still come preinstalled with Android 2.2 that gives it support for Flash 10.1, and will feature Verizon’s 3G hotspot feature if you’re willing to pay a little extra.
Pleasantly, it’s also priced the same as the original Droid 2. Verizon is offering it for $200 with a contact and after a $100 main-in rebate. The original Droid 2’s priced dropped down to $150 though, which is still a good deal if you don’t really plan on traveling.
