Toshiba unveils Android phone with Regza branding and a 12MP cam Toshiba Regza T 01C

Here’s another Android smartphone with a unique twist: Toshiba just launched their first Android-powered smartphone, called the T-01C. What makes it intriguing? For starters, it comes with Toshiba’s Regza badge above the screen, which Toshiba usually slaps onto their line of TVs.

Otherwise, it’s your typical Android phone that comes preloaded with Android 2.1 (with an update to 2.2 sometime next year) with 3G, GPS, Wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity, a TV tuner, a 12.2MP camera with 720p video recording, and a waterproof body. Okay, the last three features aren’t really “typical.” Anyway, in case you didn’t get it yet, the TV tuner part is where Toshiba’s Regza badge comes in. To make the mobile TV experience a little more bearable, the phone also comes with a kickstand for laying it out on a table. As for the waterproof shell, we don’t really know how it ties into the whole Regza phone concept, but waterproofed devices are always a treat.

It’s set to sell in Japan between December and January, with no news on international availability yet. [via Electronista]
