Panasonic has finally unveiled the Lumix GF2, a Micro Four Thirds cam that’s being touted to be the lightest and one of the smallest interchangeable lens cam in the world. That’s a pretty long line to remember it for, but with a 265 gram body that measures 32.8mm thick, it’s significantly more compact than the previous GF1.
The GF2 sports a 12.1MP live MOS sensor, and features Panasonic’s Venus Engine FHD that makes for a cam that can shoot 1080i or 720p videos at 60fps, and still images using a 23-point autofocus system. Despite the compact body, it doesn’t give up much space on the shooter’s side with a 3-inch, 460k-pixel touchscreen LCD display. As with the other MFT cams, you still get full manual controls and RAW format shooting, and the usual in-cam techs like face detection and Intelligent Auto for quick and easy shooting.
For a little bit of variety on your shots, the GF2 also features a new My Color mode that gives it 8 preset filter effects (Expressive, Retro, Pure, Elegant, Cinema, Monochrome, Dynamic Art, Silhouette), plus a custom mode that’ll let you manually tweak color, brightness, saturation and contrast settings.
Available in five body colors, the GF2 kit is bundled with either an 18mm f2.5 pancake lens or a 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 zoom lens, but it’s also compatible with the rest of Panasonic’s interchangeable lenses, including the Lumix G 12.5mm f12 that lets it take 3D photos, or any other MFT lens kits with an optional lens adaptor. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but they’re expected to cost somewhere around $900 when they start shipping in January.
