After the official unveil, we’ve checked out the specs, listed the features and watched the Palm Pre 2’s commercial, so everyone pretty much knows what the Palm Pre 2 can do and what it’s all about. But what really makes HP’s new webOS-powered Palm Pre 2 a tasty pick is the way it goes about things. Of course, it does feature the standard smartphone stuff that includes a multitouch interface, web browsing, multimedia and apps, but the new operating system’s features are what make it special. Pretty nifty interface. Oh, and it also gets a tougher glass front and a better keypad. (Video after the break.)
The video shows off what you can do with the Just Type feature that lets you do things other than search, plus the eye-pleasing way it goes about multitasking via a touch-friendly, window-like interface called Cards that lets you flip through and switch between open apps. Palm Pre Senior Product Manager Tim Pettitt also confirms a number of hardware changes on the Pre 2, which includes a durable, scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass up front and a more tactile hardware keyboard that should please people who still prefer fiddling with actual buttons.
Pettitt also dropped a few nuggets about the Palm Pre 2 around the end of the video. Prices and availability weren’t revealed (yet), but when it drops, you might be happy to know that HP will also be selling unlocked versions of the Pre 2 through their website if you don’t want to be tied down to a carrier.
