Now it looks like the white iPhone 4 will be completely cancelled Apple cancelled white iPhone 4

Just yesterday, they said that the white iPhone 4’s release will be pushed back to Spring, 2011 because painting it white turned out to be more difficult than just, you know, painting it white. Now, we’re hearing reports about Apple pulling the plug on the white version completely for an entirely different problem that arose from covering it with a white shell.

According to this report from Cult of Mac, the semi-translucent rear panel on the white iPhone 4 messes with the camera. According to the anonymous source, “You don’t get accurate pictures on the white iPhone because of the color of the glass back. It washes out the pictures,” and Apple has since been struggling to isolate the camera sensor.

That’s going to take a lot more work to fix. And that leads us to this next report from BGR, where a source tells them that Apple won’t be releasing the white iPhone 4 anymore.

But they just said they’re delaying it to Spring next year, right? Sounds like a smart move. Really, are you willing to wait that long when you can just pick up a perfectly fine black iPhone 4 right now? And if you were willing to wait for it, wouldn’t you rather wait for the next iPhone—the iPhone 5, or 4S, or whatever it’s going to be called—instead? If the camera issue turns out to be the real reason, then it’s a pretty safe bet that they’ll be fixing that, along with the antenna issue, on the next version.

Here’s to a white iPhone 5 (or 4S?) with a better antenna design by next year, then. We like it already.
