Samsung officially announces Galaxy Tab price in the UK. It’s now officially more expensive than the iPad Samsung Galaxy Tab sideWe all pretty much know when and where Samsung’s Galaxy Tab is going to launch first—it’s due out in the US later this month, and officially out in the UK on November 1—but this is the first official word on its price from UK-based retailers. According to the UK stores, including Dixon’s and PC World,. The cheapest 16GB Galaxy Tab is going to sell for 600 with tax, which translates to around $950. That’s significantly higher than the equivalent 16GB iPad  with 3G and Wifi that sells there for around $838.

Of course, there are differences: the Android 2.2-based Galaxy Tab will come equipped with dual cameras versus none on the iPad, a microSD card slot for memory expansion and support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1 for full web browsing. It’s also more compact at 7 inches, which you may or may not consider a good thing compared to the iPad’s 9.8-inch screen.

Does that make up for the extra price? It could, depending on your needs. In terms of pricing, the iPad wins on the low-end, thanks to a cheaper Wifi-only version that makes it affordable to cost-conscious consumers who have no need for a mobile 3G connection and the extra data costs you have to pony up for it every month.

The price is for the unlocked version. All UK carriers will offer subsidized prices on the same day for those who are willing to get it along with a mobile contract.
