News about HP’s Slate has been off and on for almost a year now, including teasers, news about an impending release, launch delays, pricing and spec leaks, and then a rumor that it’s going to be dropped throughout the year, but the hype kind of died down after everyone else basically put out various iPad rivals. A new unofficial hands-on video just turned up showing the slate (marked as a “prototype”)though, showing it running on a Windows 7 OS (which we already know), and a dedicated ctrl-alt-delete button because, well, it runs on Windows. Video after the break.
That ctrl-alt-delete button isn’t just for rebooting the tablet after a crash though, it’s also there for accessing the Task Manager (also handy for ending crashed apps, by the way). Whether you find that amusing or not, that button is totally necessary if you’re running on Windows. As for the rest of the features, it also shows a front and rear-side cam, a glossy 8.9-inch screen, and a rear plate that’s designed with a nice texture. The spec is still expected to feature a 1.6GHz Atom with 1GB of RAM, with an integrated hard drive, a USB port, and an SD card slot for expansion. Nothing special with the hardware or software really. Despite the constant mentions of it being “fast” or “responsive,” it still looks like a netbook with a touchscreen.
It doesn’t mention a price or release date though, but if it ever does, it could be marketed for the enterprise market. HP is believed to be working on a slate running on webOS to give a more consumer-friendly experience.
