The “retro look” doesn’t work on just anything. Case in point: big old boomboxes, bulky TV sets with channel dials, and your grandfather. However, they work really well on cameras. Case in point: a lot of advanced retro-styled cams have been turning out lately. Here’s another one: Fujifilm’s newly-launched FinePix X100, which rocks the classic metal-and-leather look and comes with enough manual controls to keep advanced shooters happy.

The 12.3MP cam is still in development with an expected launch set for “early 2011,” but here’s what to expect: an APS-C sized CMOS sensor built around Fujifilm’s EXR tech that promises DSLR-like light sensitivity, a 23mm, f2 lens, and a hybrid viewfinder that can switch between electronic and optical views and adds a view that overlaps electronic info over the optical view.
Things haven’t been finalized just yet, so we should get more info as it gets nearer to launch, but the photos also show manual control dials (including iso dial on top and an aperture ring behind the lens) that should put it in line with some of the most popular advanced non-DSLRs that also rock the retro-look, including Canon’s G-series and Panasonic’s Lumix LX line.
