We almost missed it, but one of the most popular gaming figures of all time just turned 25. Heck, he may actually be the most popular, hands-down—which was true back in the early 90’s, when a survey revealed that Mario was more recognizable to American children than Mickey Mouse (…and that’s huge. Like, Justin Bieber-huge to the kids back then). To celebrate the 25th anniversary, The Guardian put together a list of 25 facts about the famous mustachioed plumber, which includes how he got his name, and his other professions: according to the list, Mario was a carpenter before he got certified as a plumber. He also appeared as a doctor for the Dr Mario series.
You know what’s so super about him? How he found enough time to get that doctor’s degree in between evil turtle-stomping, princess-hunting, and mushroom-eating when normal people would have just dropped everything after digesting a few mushrooms.
