First set for a launch in Europe, Motorola has just announced that the Defy—the upcoming Android-powered phone that packs a spec comparable to the Droid 2, but in a rugged water/dust-resistant shell—will be arriving in the US via T-Mobile. That much was expected, although the platform for the debut—Oprah’s farewell season premiere—was not. Big day for the Oprah audience too: Oprah’s treating them to a trip to Australia, and they’ll each be taking a Defy phone along with them. Everyone else gets the chance to grab one when it launches in time for the Holidays.
As for the phone itself, here’s what’s in the tough shell: a 3.7-inch scratch-resistant touchscreen display, 5MP cam, Bluetooth, Wi-fi n,GPS, and DLNA support for streaming media wirelessly to other DLNA- compliant devices. It’ll come with an older Android 2.1 version though (with Moto’s Blur interface on top), with no word on an update to 2.2 (Froyo). At least not yet.
