The Samsung Galaxy Tab won’t be the only new slate gunning for the iPad now. Toshiba just officially introduced the Folio 100, an Android-based tablet that goes large with a 10.1-inch, 1024 x 600-resolution touchscreen.
As expected, the Folio 100 runs on Android 2.2 Froyo, and packs Nvidia’s Tegra 2 processor that can run 1080p HD video over HDMI. 16GBs of onboard storage can be added on to with an SD/MMC card slot. Connectivity options include the usual Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-fi b/g/n, and version that includes a 3G connection. For content sharing within a home network, the Folio 100 also features DLNA support.
Like Samsung’s Galaxy Tab, the Folio 100 also features an Apple-like 30-pin dock connector, but comes with an extra USB port for connecting to other peripherals. A 1.3MP webcam is also included up front for doing video calls, although there won’t be a “main cam” at the back.
The Folio 100 is set for a debut in Europe, the Middle East and Africa for 399 euros (around US$512) within the fourth quarter of this year.
