Motorola just released a new Android-powered phone that you don’t have to treat like a princess. Tagged as the Defy, this new smartie fits the Droid 2’s 3.7-inch, 854 x 480 touchscreen into a shell that’s built to be dustproof as well as water and scratch-resistant.
The specs are pretty much what you’d expect from a modern Droid, with a 5-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, Wi-fi n and GPS connectivity, plus DLNA support for easy wireless sharing with other DLNA devices.
It’s not as packed as some of the newer Droids though; the Defy runs on Android 2.1 Éclair instead of the newest 2.2 Froyo update, and packs a slower 800MHz processor (which is still relavtively ‘fast,’ although it’s obviously a notch slower than the 1GHz CPUs on the premium kits). The Google app pack includes the usual apps (Google Maps, Mail, Calendar, Navigation, YouTube), so you won’t be left in the woods with a lame phone, and access to the Android Market will let you get whatever apps you need.
The Defy is set for a Q4 release in Europe.
