ViewSonic just ended the rumors and officially announced the 7-inch ViewPad ahead of the scheduled official unveil at IFA. So what’s new besides what we already know from the info leaks? Apparently, it’s also going to come with full 3G connectivity, with the ability to handle voice calls and texting. So it’s not just a tablet. It’s also going to be a huge, 7-inch phone.

So move over, Dell Streak. Your 5-inch screen doesn’t sound that crazy anymore.

Of course, it doesn’t look like the ViewPad 7 is something that’s built to be held up against your ear so it looks like a bundled headset for doing calls is in order. (While it could look like something we’d want to see just for pure entertainment value, you really shouldn’t expect it to work that way. And even if it can do straight-up device-to-your-ear calls, you really shouldn’t.)

The rest of the spec confirms what was already detailed in previous leaks: the ViewPad 7 will run on Android 2.2 (Froyo), and will feature Bluetooth, Wi-fi and GPS along with the mentioned 3G, a USB slot and microSD slot for adding storage, and dual cameras (VGA front and 3MP main cam) that can support VoIP videocalls.

The ViewSonic 7 will cost around £350 and is set to ship in October.
