Nokia’s C6 01 drops the keypad, upgrades to Symbian^3 Nokia C6 01 2

First off, this phone is not the Nokia C6 (technically, also known as the “C6-00”), which was introduced back in April. Thanks to a premature posting by Nokia’s Dutch site, we got an early look at what could be a cheaper, but better-specced version called the C6-01.

The main difference could be the form factor: according to this bit of info digging by Mobile Geek Inc, the C6-01 will drop the original C6’s qwerty keypad and just roll with what looks like the same-sized 3.2-inch touchscreen. (Apparently, the phone showing a slide-out keyboard below was a shot of the original C6 beside the C6-01’s side-view and rear.)

While the rest of the spec is predictable (the usual Wi-fi, 3G, Bluetooth set), this phone will pack a better 8MP cam and dual-LED flash (compared to the C6’s 5MP, single LED snapper), and will run on Nokia’s newer widget-based Symbian^3 operating system. The leaked image of the phone also shows a “249.90” price The currency wasn’t clear, but if 250 euros mean around $320 for an unlocked phone (before network subsidies), then we’re looking at a fairly affordable S^3 smartphone due out pretty soon.
